Filled

I don’t know about you, but I wait until the last possible second to fill my car up with gas…college, am I right? Anyways, yesterday was the day I had no choice but to drive over to Walmart and fill up. As I waited for the gas tank to be filled, I leaned against my car and started thinking.

It made me think of how sometimes we wait until the last second to be filled spiritually.

A lot of times we go to church on Sunday and start the week off well. But that’s it. We don’t spend any personal time with God throughout the week. Our Bibles aren’t cracked open again until the next Sunday and quite honestly, most of our prayer lives consist of “Help me pass this test I didn’t study for.”

By the time Saturday night rolls around we are pretty much running on empty. That’s not a fun place to be. It’s a vulnerable place, our defenses are down and we can’t knock out lies and temptations satan throws at us very well.

I get being busy, I really do. But I have never once regretted taking time to spend with Jesus. A lot of times that’s the only way I avoid getting completely overwhelmed at whatever the day holds.

But satan knows that. He knows we need that sacred time with the Lord everyday so he distracts us. Our minds are consumed with worries and a checklist of 57 things that have to be done right then. Don’t get me wrong, we have responsibilities in this life but our number one priority needs to be Jesus.

It doesn’t mean all of our days are going to go smoothly without a hitch. It doesn’t mean we won’t have bad days or that things will be easy. BUT, it does mean that we will be ready to face whatever the day holds. We will be filled with peace regardless of whatever situation we’re in. It means we’ll have an everlasting kind of joy that isn’t based on how good or bad our days are.

“and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.” (Colossians 2:10)
