Know Your Worth

It takes a lot for me to get genuinely upset about things, in fact, I would say I’m generally a pretty calm, cool person. But one thing that frustrates me more than just about anything is people not knowing their worth.

Satan tricking them into believing his LIES. Y’all, I’m seriously angry. And I think it’s okay to be angry about something like this. We have friends all around us, every single day, falling into the traps of worthlessness.

Worthlessness.

Satan is deceiving and misleading children of God. That is something worth being mad about. Precious, precious children of God are being lied to daily, and believing it. They’re accepting that they can’t be worth more, because of whatever insecurities or doubts they face tell them they can’t be.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have definitely had my share in the struggle of believing the lies of worthlessness and not being good enough. I think we have all fought that battle at some point, and it’s so fantastic when the light comes shining bright into our lives, telling us we’ve been lied to. When God shows us all that we’re worth through Jesus. Man alive, what a feeling that is. We never have to believe the lies ever again!

But I want that for everyone. I do not want there to be a soul on this planet that doubts their worth, because they shouldn’t. Literally guys, the CREATOR of Earth and us and everything, LOVES US. He loves us. Just as we are. Flawed, imperfect, human beings. He loves us so stinking much that He

sent His only son to die for us. On a cross.

If that does not blow your mind, I don’t know what will. The fact that He not only died for us and loved us enough for that kind of sacrifice, but the fact that He knew we were still messed up sinners?!? He knew some of us would not come willingly or easily into His arms. He knew that some people would never accept Him or the free gift He has to offer, but none of that mattered. What mattered is that He. Loves. Us. Period. No exceptions or exclusions. There is nothing you can do to outrun or escape His love. There is no place He can’t find you. There is nothing, NOTHING you have done or will do that will EVER separate you from His love. It’s relentless.

He will not stop pursing you. Ever. It’s not in His nature.

“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8)

While we were still sinners. While we were still deep in the pit of darkness. He died for us.

Jesus Christ.

On a cross.

For all of our sin.

He took the wrath and punishment that we deserved because He loves us that much.

Now tell me how any of us could ever doubt our worth.

Let me ask you an even deeper question, how can we not share this news with others we know are hurting?

I’m calling myself out here too. How can we, as the body of Christ, not share this with the world?

We have to put aside our own doubts, because as believers we know where those things come from. We know the truth; we do not have to be held captive by those lies anymore.

It’s time to stand up. It’s time to tell satan, “No sir. I do not have to listen to you anymore. I am a child of God.” Put him in his place, remind him that you have been set free. You are no longer enslaved in those chains.

I once read a devotional that said something to the effect of “satan is like a toothless lion.” He seems really scary and tough; like he could totally take you down. But guess what? He can’t. Once

you have accepted Jesus into your life, you are sealed.

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14)

Sealed people. The Holy Spirit lives in you. The same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us. The same power. Oh, Jesus blows my mind.

So once again, how could we ever doubt our worth.

Let’s live in this freedom. Know that you and I are set free from the lies and traps satan has tried to convince us we couldn’t get out of for so long.

More than that though, let’s share it with others.

I don’t know about you, but again, one of the things that angers me most is satan tricking people into believing his lies. On the other hand, few things light me up more than seeing God set those same people free.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound…” (Isaiah 61:1)

He has come to set the captives free. He has opened the prison to those who are bound. All for our good and His glory.

“…to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor; and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:2-3)

What amazing promises, a beautiful headdress for ashes, gladness instead of mourning, praise instead of a faint spirit.

God is so, so good. He makes us new. He changes us. There doesn’t have to be doubt and worthlessness anymore.

Jesus Christ died to save sinners like us. That’s how we know our worth.
