Am I the Only One Feeling This?

Last summer my family took a trip to Hawaii, which is beautiful by the way! On one of the last days of our trip we were walking around a small downtown area by the beach, enjoying our last little bits of the island. Out of no where my mom exclaimed, “Am I the only one feeling this”? This being what she thought were random rain drops but was actually condensation dripping off her water bottle. As I’m sure you can imagine, we all had a good laugh after we realized what had happened.

For a while after we got back home we would tease my mom about it occasionally but this summer I had totally forgotten about it until my little brother brought it up again. Like always, the Lord used a simple memory like this to really get me thinking.

One of satan’s biggest lies is making us feel like we’re completely alone, like we’re the only one feeling “this”.

Whatever “this” is for you, I just want to assure you that you are not alone. You are not the only one stuck in some pit, dealing with temptations, or whatever else you think that no one else could possibly understand.

Satan is using the same trick on pretty much everyone around you in some area of their life, that way no one opens up about what’s wrong. No one gathers together in prayer and has accountability partners. At least while we believe the lie of being the only one feeling what we’re feeling.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

To me, this verse sums up community, which is something I have talked about before, but it’s so important not to forget about it. Having that solid group of girls (or guys) that you are open & honest with about how life is going, where Jesus is the center of it all…that. That is what satan is trying to steal from you. The joy of having community that tells you, “You’re not alone” and pushes you towards Jesus.

Most importantly though, even if you’re in a place where you don’t have any sense of community, you’re still not alone. God is with you. He will never leave you, forsake you, or abandon you. He loves you so so much, and He is always with you.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:5)
