Something I spend a lot of time doing is running. I’m on the cross country team at ETBU, but even before that for about a year or so, I was always running.
One day I told my mom that I wanted to run a half marathon. She said okay, we signed up, and started training.
Now before this time I had really never been a runner; however, my mom has been running for years. Everyday whenever we got outside and hit the road, I followed her. First of all because she is faster than me, but also because I didn’t know where I was going. I didn’t know the best routes.
Wherever my mom went, I followed. If she turned right, I turned right. If she crossed the street, I crossed the street.
Get the picture? No questions asked, I just did it. I didn’t know where we were going and I trust her to lead our runs.
Another thing about running is that it gives you a lot of time to think. (especially when you’re training for a half!) On one of our many days braving the Texas heat I was considering what I have just been talking about. Following my mom around, no questions asked.
Then it hit me: I should be doing my life like that. Following wherever God leads me, no questions asked. When He says go right, I outta go right. Make sense?
“Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:38)
God will never stop blowing my mind. Everyday He uses the little things I do to teach me a new lesson or reveal His glory to me. I now have this awesome reminder every time I go run (which is often) of how I need to listen to God’s voice and follow where He leads.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)
